ORBITAL ART GALLERY PRESENTS: SAVAGE PENCIL’S “VISUAL HARM” ART SHOW

LOCATION: Orbital Art Galley/Comics/Pop Ups 8 Great Newport Street, London WC2H 7JA

EXHIBITION: FRIDAY 3 SEPTEMBER – FRIDAY 1 OCTOBER 2021 (OPEN MONDAY – THURSDAY: 12 – 6 PM; FRIDAY & SATURDAY 12 – 7 PM; SUNDAY 12 – 5 PM)

The recently launched ORBITAL ART GALLERY is extremely proud to announce VISUAL HARM, a new and exclusive exhibition by legendary psychedelic artist SAVAGE PENCIL. The exhibition brings together a wild mix of old and new images – some re-worked into other forms through different mediums. Drawing on a lifetime’s work, selected artworks were pulled from the artist’s archive and reactivated as silkscreened prints, T-shirt designs or emblazoned on skateboard decks. Loosely intended as an accompaniment to his book Rated SavX: The Savage Pencil Skratchbook* that was published in 2020 by Strange Attractor, Visual Harm extends some of the work gathered there and crashes it into a gallery space for maximum impact.

Orbital Gallery curator Billy Chainsaw says: “This exhibition crowns Savage Pencil as England’s king of counter-culture art.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

SAVAGE PENCIL, aka SAVX, is the nom-de-plume of artist and writer Edwin Pouncey (b.1951) who has been a part of the London underground art scene for five decades. His work has appeared in various magazines, books, journals, comix and record covers – as well as being featured on a host of posters, prints, T-shirts, hoodies and skateboards, with Sonic Youth, Big Black, The Fall, Earth and Sunn O))) among the many musicians he has collaborated with.
