Exclusive Announcement: Author Max Booth III Now Set to Release Hardcover Edition of ‘We Need to Do Something’

We Need To Do Something

Dread Central’s Michelle Swope said this about We Need to Do Something: “Expert storytelling and spectacular performances… A terrifying, one-of-a-kind horror film.” Chad Collins had this to say: “Unhinged, chaotic, and abounding with occult chills, We Need to Do Something is poised to be one of 2021’s most ambiguous yet enduringly frightening horror debuts.”

We Need to Do Something is based on the novella by Max Booth III, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. To commemorate the film’s release on September 3rd, Booth is releasing a new hardcover edition of We Need to Do Something.

Dread Central is thrilled to be the first to tell you about this exciting re-release. Find details below the trailer and synopsis for the film, directed by Sean King O’Grady (in his feature narrative debut).

Synopsis:
After Melissa and her family seek shelter from a storm, they become trapped. With no sign of rescue, hours turn to days and Melissa comes to realize that she and her girlfriend Amy might have something to do with the horrors that threaten to tear her family – and the entire world – apart.

We Need to Do Something stars Sierra McCormick (The Vast of Night), Vinessa Shaw (Hocus Pocus), and Pat Healy (Cheap Thrills, The Innkeepers). John James Cronin (NOS4A2), and newcomer Lisette Alexis are also featured.

This will be a limited run of 1,000 copies only. The first 70 orders will also receive an actual bathroom tile from the movie set, which the author collected from a dumpster after filming officially wrapped and the set was demolished. (Check out the fun infographic below)

“October 2020 will go down as one of the best months of my entire life as that’s the month we made our movie together,” Booth tells Dread Central exclusively. “However, toward the end of filming, I did experience an unusually sad day: the morning I exited the crew’s hotel with Shane Patrick Ford (our editor), walked across the parking lot toward the Atlas Industries studio, and discovered the bathroom set had been demolished and discarded in a dumpster. For those aware, aside from a few flashback sequences, the entirety of WNTDS takes place in this bathroom, which means we had just spent the majority of the last month residing in what was now in a dumpster. I paused, staring at the destruction of it all, and processed a single thought: I can make a profit off of this. Then I got my car, backed up next to the dumpster, and scavenged as much of the bathroom as I could fit into my trunk. Then I drove it across the country and disassembled it all with a hammer.”

Here are more details about the hardcover edition, including the cover art.

About the screenplay, Booth tells Dread Central: “In October 2020 I drove from Texas to Michigan to be on the set of my first feature film. I lived in a hotel room for nearly a month as the words I’d written were brought to life. It is a feeling I never thought I would experience, and even now, nearly a year later, I’m still dumbstruck.

“During the filming of WNTDS, I often met up with the director (Sean King O’Grady) after each day’s wrap and talked about potential issues we might face on future shooting days. We discussed resolutions to these (mostly small problems), which I would fix by tweaking the script later that night in my hotel room. The final draft, completed just two days before filming officially ended, was labeled the ‘black void draft’ since we had run out of other colors to use. This is the draft that I am including in the limited edition hardcover release. It couldn’t be more appropriately titled because after so long, the more edits you make on a screenplay the more it feels like you’re simply crawling into a black void. I couldn’t be more proud of it.”
