Prano Bailey-Bond’s Horror Thriller CENSOR is arriving On Demand

I had the opportunity to watch Censor earlier this year and I consider it one of the best films of the year. It is a psychological thriller that takes its audience back to the era of the “video nasties”. The video nasty is a colloquial term used in the United Kingdom back in the eighties to describe several low-budget horror films distributed on VHS.

Because of the direct-to-video nature of the films they were not brought before the British Board of Film Classification due to a loophole that allowed the tapes to bypass the review process. Due to public outcry because of the violent content of the films; most of which were low budget horror. The UK Parliament passed the Video Recordings Act of 1984 which required the recordings to be reviewed by censors. Infamously this led to 72 separate films known as the “video nasties” to be banned from distribution in the countries.

In Prano Bailey Bond’s (Nasty) new film Censor, Niamh Algar (Raised by Wolves) portrays a board censor named Enid Banes, whose world unravels when she believes that she has discovered her missing sister in a particularly gruesome series of video nasties. Causing her to balance a tight rope between sanity and madness as she attempts to uncover the mystery of her sister’s disappearance.
