Terrifying Marvel Cinematic Universe Villain The Abomination Returns In SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS

Marvel fans were delighted to see the villain known as the Abomination showing up in the trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He appears at 1:50, where he can be seen participating in a cage fight against Wong, a character who appeared in Doctor Strange and in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. After the trailer debuted on YouTube, fans have been widely celebrating the return of the Abomination to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, because the popular antagonist has been missing from the blockbuster franchise for years. Producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige then acknowledged the appearance of the Abomination in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, where he describes how he was thrilled by the ways fans responded to seeing the villain making a long-overdue comeback.

The Abomination was originally known as Emil Blonsky, and he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the 2008 movie The Incredible Hulk, which was the second film in the MCU. He was played by Tim Roth, who portrayed Blonsky as a cruel and ruthless special-ops commander who was transformed into a hideous monstrosity after willingly being injected with a variant of the Super Soldier Serum and being infused with a sample of the Hulk’s blood. After being defeated by the Hulk at the end of the movie, the character was largely absent from the MCU for the next decade aside from a few scattered mentions and references. For instance, in the short film The Consultant, it was revealed that the US government had wanted Blomsky to join the Avengers, but S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson prevented this from happening due to Blomsky’s psychotic personality. Similarly, a framed newspaper clipping which showed the Abomination fighting the Hulk was also visible throughout the scenes set in the headquarters of the New York Bulletin throughout the MCU Netflix shows. But aside from that, the Abomination has been missing from the MCU for years, so it’s about damn time he returned.

While Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is hardly a horror film, the Abomination is still a horrific enough character for us to be excited about his big screen comeback. He possesses the same powers as the Hulk, but lacks any form of moral compass, making him one of the MCU’s darkest and most terrifying villains to date. While he probably won’t have a huge amount of screen time in the film, fans will still be thrilled to know that they will soon be able to once again see the Abomination flexing his gigantic green muscles on the big screen.

On the other hand, it was recently confirmed that the Abomination will also appear in the upcoming She-Hulk TV series on Disney+, so the grotesque villain really is here to stay. It has been confirmed that Roth will return to play the Abomination in She-Hulk, although it is not currently clear if he will also portray the character in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but we can expect to hear more news on this in the coming weeks.
