THE CRAVING – Netflix to Develop the Thriller with Some Serious Talent

I won’t blame you if you don’t know who Adam Robitel and Gavin Heffernan are. If you’re not in the know, Robitel directed the severely underrated (in my opinion) Escape Room. Heffernan was the writer for Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension. A film I have not seen. Netflix is ready for a pilot and the pair is looking to deliver. Not much is known about The Craving except it’s about addiction as told through the lens of horror.

Synopsis:
The Craving explores the real-world horrors of addiction through a genre lens. It centers around a female sheriff in a Colorado ski town besieged by an unprecedented new threat.

Very vague, but I’m still excited. There is a lot of horror pedigree in the team-up between Heffernan and Robitel. They’re not strangers to collaboration. They previously worked together on 2014’s The Taking of Deborah Logan. Robitel is also out there on the hustle for horror movies, directing Escape Room, Insidious: The Last Key, and the upcoming Escape Room: Tournament of Champions. The Craving is being executive produced with Darren Aronofsky and Elizabeth Gesas at Protozoa Pictures. Aronofsky being onboard is heartening. He makes some excellent genre film.

This is definitely a pairing to watch. The Taking of Deborah Logan was a low-key entry into the found footage pantheon, but it holds a deserved spot. It’s about a woman’s mental decline due to illness and age…or is it? It’s a fun little movie. If watching it is indicative of this team’s output moving forward, then I think we should all be very excited for The Craving. No release date yet, but we’ll let you know when we have one.
