WEREWOLVES WITHIN Killing It At Specialty Box Office

Werewolves Within, distributed by IFC Films, is having a big weekend. It had the biggest debut in the specialty box office this weekend. The film, directed by Josh Ruben (Scare Me), is a surprise video game adaptation hit. Currently holding a strong 82% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s looking to take a bite out of your time. It debuted in 270 locations, grossing $223,000 with an average of $826 per screen.

Synopsis:
A snowstorm traps town residents together inside the local inn, where newly arrived forest ranger Finn and postal worker Cecily must try to keep the peace and uncover the truth behind a mysterious creature that has begun terrorizing the community.

Who would have thought that a movie about being trapped inside would resonate so much? It’s almost as if a lot of us have spent the last year and a half indoors. Curious. Werewolves Within stars Sam Richardson and Milana Vayntrub. In the film, newly transferred park ranger Finn (Richardson) and new arrival Cecily (Vayntrub) try to keep the peace after a series of events lead the small town of Beaverfield to be locked in an inn.

George Basil, Sarah Burns, Michael Chernus, Catherine Curtain, Wayne Duvall, Harvey Fuillen, Rebecca Henderson, Cheyenne Jackson, Michaela Watkins, and Glenn Fleshler comprise the rest of the cast. I recently watched the film myself and it was an absolute blast. It’s funny, and a bit spooky. I never expected a video game adaptation to go so well. I guess Werewolves Within hops up on the pantheon of “Actually Good” video game adaptations.
