PET SEMATARY Adaptation Finds It’s New Jud Crandall

They’re making Pet Sematary again? Color me surprised. The 2019 version did numbers. I have a hunch, though. I think that it’s a prequel. Bare with me. Jackson White (Mrs. Fletcher) is in final negotiations to play Crandall. The thing is, he’s far too young for the part. Perhaps Paramount is looking at doing an origin story of sorts about the burial ground that brings things back to life.

No plot details are out there for this new entry in the Pet Sematary series. Jud Crandall is the affable old man who explains how the burial ground works to the Creed family in the story. Also, this will be the third iteration of Crandall. Played the first time in the absolutely excellent 1989 Pet Sematary by the late Fred Gwynne, and In the 2019 version, he is played by John Lithgow.

Jackson White is fairly new on the scene. He’s been in HBO’s Mrs. Fletcher, and he’ll be in the upcoming Ambulance opposite Jake Gyllenhaal. Also, I just think a Pet Sematary prequel would be cool. The backstory is touched on in the movies, but it’s never hit the heights of the flashbacks in the books. Not to sound like a huge nerd – though I’m absolutely going to – but a fleshed-out prequel that follows the framework built by the flashbacks in Stephen King’s original book would be dope.
