Indie horror gets a rough shake in theaters. Usually something cool and indie would end up on demand or on physical media like DVD or Blu-ray. Regal Cinemas is being cool about it though, and will be releasing Craig Singer’s 6:45 in theaters this August. Singer is quick to point out that this is the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that the nation’s second largest theater chain has supported an indie horror release.

Synopsis: A couple on a romantic weekend getaway find themselves trapped in a demented cycle of terror at a picturesque seaside town.

As the country comes out of the pandemic, we can all use an escape from reality, and nothing does that quite like the movies. We’re thrilled that Regal will be distributing 6:45 giving widest possible audience.”

Rob Westerling, Regal’s head film buyer, agrees. “There is only one way to truly enjoy a horror movie and that is on the big screen. Through our partnership with Cascrator Film and Media, we are excited to bring our guests the psychological thriller 6:45. This movie was made to be seen in a dark theatre with a large crowd sharing in all the jumps and scares crafted throughout this tale of terror.”

The North American box office is getting there. It’s been a hard year plus for every theater chain. Talks of bankruptcy and foreclosures dominated the news for a while there. With covid hopefully on the downswing, we’ll see theaters come roaring back. I for one miss sitting in a theater.
