MY BEST FRIEND’S EXORCISM Has Now Cast Its Exorcist

One of my favorite books is Grady Hendrix’s My Best Friend’s Exorcism. The film adaptation is currently shooting. And today we hear Chris Lowell (Promising Young Woman, GLOW) has joined the cast.

Lowell plays the film’s exorcist. But he’s not your father’s exorcist. No, he’s a muscly meathead who along with his brother performs a “Faith and Fitness” at the teens’ parochial school. He sees that Gretchen is possessed and in need of an exorcism.

Perfect casting.

Lowell joins the above-mentioned Elsie Fisher (Castle Rock) who is playing Abby. Amiah Miller (War for the Planet of the Apes, Lights Out) is Gretchen. Meanwhile, Cathy Ang (Ramy) and Rachel Ogechi Kanu will play two friends in their group.

Damon Thomas (Killing Eve, Penny Dreadful) directs from a screenplay written by Jenna Lamia (Good Girls, The CW’s 90210). Lamia also serves as associate producer.

Christopher Landon (Freaky, Happy Death Day) produces for Amazon Studios.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism is fittingly described as a hybrid of Beaches and The Exorcist that blends teen angst, adolescent drama, unspeakable horrors, and a mix of ’80s pop songs into a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller. More specifically, it takes place in 1988 and follows high school sophomores Abby and Gretchen who have been best friends since fourth grade. But after an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act…different. She’s moody. She’s irritable. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she’s nearby. Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries—and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?
