New Image for Nia DaCosta’s CANDYMAN Paints a Gory Picture

Universal tried to release Nia DaCosta’s Candyman in theaters back in June. But COVID pushed it to September, then October. Now it hits this August. And today we have a new pic from the flick.

Looks like he’s painting good old Candyman – after getting a shotgun to the face.
The film hits theaters on August 27, 2021. And co-star Colman Domingo promises the epic and visually stunning reboot needs to be seen on the big screen.
Domingo tells ET: “It does need to be on a big screen, I believe that. Nia DaCosta directed something that is really epic and it’s really visually stunning. And I think you need to be in an audience and be shocked and at the same time. And laugh at the same time, and go ‘oh’ at the same time.”
Meantime, DaCosta writes: “We made CANDYMAN to be seen in theaters. Not just for the spectacle but because the film is about community and stories–how they shape each other, how they shape us. It’s about the collective experience of trauma and joy, suffering and triumph, and the stories we tell around it. We wanted the horror and humanity of CANDYMAN to be experienced in a collective, a community, so we’re pushing Candyman to next year, to ensure that everyone can see the film, in theaters, and share in that experience.”

DaCosta also penned the new film with Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld.
A decade after the first film, a visual artist moves into a luxury loft condo in Chicago’s Cabrini Green. The city gentrified the neighborhood beyond recognition and now millennials inhabit its walls. With his career about to stall, an encounter with an old-timer exposes him to a tragically horrific true story. One regarding the Candyman, a word-of-mouth supernatural killer with a hook for a hand. Anxious to maintain his status in the art world, he begins to explore the macabre details. But he nknowingly opens a door that unravels his own sanity. And unleashes a terrifyingly viral wave of violence that puts him on a collision course with destiny.
