Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train is a continuation of the popular Demon Slayer anime TV series. The show was in itself based on the manga created by Koyoharu Gotouge. The film earned an incredible $415 million at the global box office. That made it the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time. And also one of the highest-grossing films not in the English language. As if those records were not impressive enough, it is also now the highest-grossing R-rated animated movie of all time. That is certainly something the filmmakers should be proud of.

Just like the anime TV series, the film focuses on Tanjirō Kamado. He’s a young man who dedicates his life to hunting demons. That is after a demon known as Muzan Kibutsuji kills his mother, brother, and his youngest sister. He is tasked with investigating a series of mysterious disappearances onboard a vehicle known as the Mugen Train. And the disappearances are soon proven to be demon-related. Tanjirō’s surviving sister Nezuko Kamado was previously transformed into a demon. Now she also appears throughout the film, as do the popular characters Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira.

Haruo Sotozaki, who previously directed episodes of the show, helms the movie. On the other hand, the English dub includes Zach Aguilar, Bryce Papenbrook, Abby Trott, Aleks Le, and Mark Whitten.

Why was Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train such a hit with Japanese audiences? You can find out for yourself by watching it on the big screen. It is now playing in select cinemas across the US. Both dubbed and subtitled screenings are available, and tickets can be purchased online from AMC and Regal. And don’t worry if it isn’t playing in a cinema near your local area. The film will also hit various streaming platforms, including Apple TV, Google Play, Vudu, and Amazon on June 22. However, those of you living in the UK will have to wait until May 26 before you can watch this smash hit anime movie in cinemas, so UK readers might want to mark that date in their calendars.
