I think it’s safe to say that at the moment, Saint Maud is THE must-see horror movie. Case in point, now even The Haunting of Hill House, Hush, Gerald’s Game, and Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan is highly recommending A24’s new nightmare.

First-time writer-director Rose Glass’ film follows live-in nurse Maud who arrives at the home of Amanda, a famous dancer now frail from illness and trapped in her isolated house. At first, Amanda is intrigued by this young woman, who provides a distraction from her failing health. And Maud is bewitched by her new patient.
But Maud is not all that she seems.
She is tormented by a violent secret from her past and by ecstatic messages she believes are directly from God. She becomes convinced she has been sent to Amanda, not as a nurse, but to serve a divine purpose. As her grip on reality slides out of control, Maud’s care turns into a deadly mission to save Amanda’s soul.
Morfydd Clark stars along with Jennifer Ehle, Lily Knight, Lily Frazer, Turlough Convery, Rosie Sansom, Marcus Hutton, Carl Prekopp, and Noa Bodner.
The film sports a 93% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus: A brilliantly unsettling blend of body horror and psychological thriller, Saint Maud marks an impressive debut for writer-director Rose Glass.
MPAA slapped it with an R-rating for disturbing and violent content, sexual content, and also language. Saint Maud hits Amazon Prime Video on May 13th!
