Artist Makes New 1930s-Style THE BABADOOK Cartoon Based on Betty Boop

Summer Ray is a voiceover actor, writer, and artist based in London who spent her weekend on a unique project horror fans are certain to appreciate. She created a 1930s-style cartoon character design reference for The Babadook (the opaque villain featured in the film of the same name). It’s based on an authentic design sheet for Betty Boop.

The Babadook, released in 2014, is written and directed by Jennifer Kent; the film stars Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, and Daniel Henshall.

Synopsis:
A single mother, plagued by the violent death of her husband, also battles with her son’s fear of a monster lurking in the house, but soon discovers a sinister presence all around her.

The film sports a 98% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: The Babadook relies on real horror rather than cheap jump scares — and boasts a heartfelt, genuinely moving story to boot.

The film also scored multiple nominations at the 41st Saturn Awards. Essie Davis earned a nomination for Best Actress. Noah Wiseman was also nominated for Best Performance by a Younger Actor. And producers Kristina Ceyton and Kristian Molière were also nominated for Best Horror Film.
