Zack Snyder Fans Are Now “Review Bombing” GODZILLA VS KONG

“Review bombing” refers to coordinated attacks against films by flooding online aggregate platforms with underserved 1-star reviews. According to our friends at Screen Rant, the latest high-profile victim of “review bombing” is Godzilla vs Kong. The film is set to hit US theaters and HBO Max in just two days on March 31st.

The idea of a big-budget film receiving a toxic reception online isn’t exactly unheard of. But the “review bombing” currently aimed at Godzilla vs Kong is coming from an unlikely group for an unlikely reason. The effort seems to be spearheaded by fans of Zack Snyder who are upset at Warner Bros. (one of Godzilla vs Kong‘s producers) for their refusal to canonize and/or continue the Snyder-Cut of Justice League.

Screen Rant reports:

Following the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, fans are now campaigning for WB to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse and some have begun targeting Godzilla vs. Kong’s release. The film’s IMDb page (via CBR) has a 7.5 user rating already, but a small number of Snyder fans are attempting to drop its rating by posting 1-star reviews. At the time of this writing, Godzilla vs. Kong has forty-four 1-star reviews, and thirty-three of them directly attribute this rating to WB’s refusal to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. However, Godzilla vs. Kong has over 9,000 user reviews so far and the small attack has led others, including Snyder supporters, to give the movie a 10-star rating to negate the review bombing attempt.

These days, algorithms and programmatics play a huge role in studios’ decisions regarding which franchises to invest in, and which ones to scrap. Until “review bombing” can be successfully eliminated, the best way to combat the practice appears to be giving positive reviews to the films we truly enjoy. You don’t have to be a Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic to impact future films. So if you also loved Godzilla vs Kong as much as we did (review below) go online and give it a rating it truly deserves. The same goes for any film you enjoyed, from big-budget to indie.
