New FEAR THE WALKING DEAD Digital Spin-off Series Announced
AMC is developing a new digital original scripted series that ties into the sixth season of Fear the Walking Dead. The new digital series is called Dead in the Water. It tells the tale of a submarine crew fighting for survival. Cut off from the surface world as the apocalypse hits, the sub becomes a nuclear-fueled walker-filled death trap.
This plot makes sense as (I hear) Fear The Walking Dead showed Morgan with the key to a beached submarine. Jacob Pinion (The Althea Tapes) will pen the spin-off digital series. Fear showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg will also produce Dead in the Water with executive producer Scott Gimple.
Kim Kelleher, president of commercial revenue and partnerships for AMC Networks also said: “We have a long history of creating award-winning original digital content. It engages our passionate audiences. We develop and curate new, high-quality ad-supported environments. We‘re marrying our proven creative ability with expanded reach, opening up new distinct destinations for our fans. And meaningful opportunities for our advertising partners, all sold through our AMCN Digital offering. Through the expanded distribution of exclusive originals, we are able to delight fans every step of their consumer journey. And take our advertisers along for the ride.”
The highly-anticipated return of Fear the Walking Dead begins with the second half of Season 6. Featuring nine episodes, it premieres Sunday, April 11th at 9:00 pm/8c.
Morgan’s (Lennie James) bid to free the remaining members of the group becomes bolder. Meanwhile, Virginia (Colby Minifie) grows increasingly desperate to find her sister. And also protect the settlements from forces inside and outside her walls.
The second half of season six reveals what Virginia’s control has done to the group. New alliances are formed, relationships are destroyed, and loyalties forever changed. Forced to take sides, they’ll discover the meaning of, “The End is the Beginning.
Fear the Walking Dead stars Lennie James, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Maggie Grace, and Colman Domingo. Danay Garcia also joins with Garret Dillahunt, and Alexa Nisenson. Karen Davidrounds out the cast with Zoe Colletti, Jenna Elfman, and Rubén Blades.
Three new characters join these nine episodes. They include John Glover (Popcorn, Gremlins 2), Nick Stahl (Carnivale, Sin City), and also Keith Carradine (Dexter, Fargo). Showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg executive produce. So does Scott Gimple, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, and David Alpert.
Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC with new episodes Sunday, April 11th.
