On this day in horror history, Jessica Chastain was born in Sacramento in 1977. Her horror contributions include Guillermo del Toro’s gothic romance epic Crimson Peak and also Andy Muschietti’s Mama and IT Chapter Two.

I remembering seeing her first in Take Shelter with Michael Shannon. Her other notable roles include The Tree of Life, The Help, Lawless, Zero Dark Thirty, Interstellar, A Most Violent Year, The Martian, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and Dark Phoenix. Her TV work also includes shows like Dark Shadows, ER, Veronica Mars, and more.

Up next for Jessica Chastain is writer-director Olivier Masset-Depasse’s Hitchcockian psychological thriller Mothers’ Instinct with Anne Hathaway (The Witches).

The film will follow best friends and neighbors (Chastain and Hathaway) who live an idyllic traditional lifestyle. Manicured lawns, successful husbands, and sons of the same age. But life’s perfect harmony is suddenly shattered after a tragic accident. Now guilt, suspicion, and also paranoia combine to unravel their sisterly bond. And a psychological battle of wills begins as the maternal instinct reveals its darker side.

The film is a remake of the Belgian movie Duelles based on the novel Derrière La Haine by Barbara Abel. Sarah Conradt (50 States of Fright) is adapting the script.

Kelly Carmichael, Paul Nelson, and also Jacques-Henri Bronckart (The Nun) produce.
