Shudder is Releasing George A. Romero’s “Lost”/Unseen THE AMUSEMENT PARK This Summer

Last year, we got word that Yellow Veil Pictures had snagged sales right’s to George A. Romero’s “lost” horror movie The Amusement Park. Recently discovered and restored 46 years after its completion by the George A. Romero Foundation and produced by Suzanne Romero it was restored in 4k by IndieCollect in New York, The Amusement Park is an alluring snapshot of the filmmaker’s early artistic capacity and style, and would go on to inform his ensuing filmography.

The film was originally commissioned by the Lutheran Society to raise awareness about ageism and elder abuse. Romero, however, conceived of what was perhaps his wildest, most imaginative movie, an allegory about the nightmarish realities of growing older. The Amusement Park stars Martin’s Lincoln Maazel as an elderly man who finds himself disoriented and increasingly isolated as the pains, tragedies, and humiliations of aging in America manifested through roller coasters and chaotic crowds.

The Amusement Park stars Lincoln Maazel, Harry Albacker, and Phyllis Casterwiler.

Late last week, it was revealed that Shudder had acquired The Amusement Park with plans to stream the film this Summer. The Hollywood Reporter got the exclusive, reporting:

“The moment we heard The Amusement Park had been rediscovered and was being restored, we knew we had to bring this unseen George A. Romero masterpiece to Shudder members,” Craig Engler, Shudder’s general manager, said in a statement.

Shudder also released the film’s poster, created by Polish artist Aleksander Walijewski.

We don’t have a trailer or an exact release date at this time, but we’ll keep you posted as details emerge. Stay tuned and check back often!
