Watch It Now! GORT is a Fan-Film Prequel to THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL

It’s been a minute since we’ve shared one of Chris R. Notarile’s short films, but regular Dread Central readers may recall the filmmaker as the mastermind behind a bevy of horror fan films, delving into franchises from Halloween to Child’s Play and many others.

Recently, the prolific filmmaker dropped GORT, a short film that serves as a prequel to the sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still (which turns 70 years only in 2021)! Give it a spin right now!

Synopsis:
On a distant planet, on the brink of civil war, a new form of peacekeeping has been created. Its name: GORT.

Director’s Statement:
One of the most iconic films in sci-fi turns 70 years in 2021, and I wanted to pay tribute to that landmark movie, The Day the Earth Stood Still. I remember seeing it for the first time and being wowed by the ending, and while I didn’t care for the remake, I was also heavily impressed with the visual for GORT.

Check out the trailer and synopsis for The Day the Earth Stood Still below.

Synopsis:
When a UFO lands in Washington, D.C., bearing a message for Earth’s leaders, all of humanity stands still. Klaatu (Michael Rennie) has come on behalf of alien life who have been watching Cold War-era nuclear proliferation on Earth. But it is Klaatu’s soft-spoken robot Gort that presents a more immediate threat to onlookers. A single mother (Patricia Neal) and her son teach the world about peace and tolerance in this moral fable, ousting the tanks and soldiers that greet the alien’s arrival.

The Day the Earth Stood Still is directed by Robert Wise.
