Another film we’ve been talking about for a while now has landed US distribution during the still going Toronto International Film Festival (it ends Sunday, September 16th): Thale will be released Stateside early next year by XLrator Media.

“Thale is a haunting and atmospheric thriller that grips you from the opening scene to the chilling finale,” said Barry Gordon, CEO of XLrator Media. “It once again shows Scandinavia to be a rich wellspring for today’s most compelling and stylish thrillers, from Let The Right One In to Troll Hunter to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and its sequels.”

Thale (review here), from director Aleksander Nordaas, stars Silje Reinåmo, Erlend Nervold, and Jon Sigve Skard. It was produced by Bendik Heggen Strønstad under his Yesbox Productions banner, co-produced by Lars L. Marøy at Film Found FUZZ, and executive produced by Gudrun Giddings, Tore Fredrik Dreyer, and Lars Andreas Hellebust. XYZ Films is representing the U.S. rights while Epic Pictures is handling international sales. The deal was negotiated by Gordon, Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films, and Gudrun Giddings and Kim H. Swartz at Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp.

Synopsis
Two crimes scene cleaners discover a mythical tailed, female creature in a concealed cellar. She never utters a word, unable to tell her tale herself, but the pieces of the puzzle soon come together; she’s been held captive for decades for reasons soon to surface. Someone is approaching from outside. They want her back.
