Iconic Monolog Comes to Life in Trailer for SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Sequel Series CLARICE

“The lambs were screaming. I tried to free them. I thought if I could save just one… but he was so heavy.”

One of the most poignant moments in The Silence of the Lambs (directed by Jonathan Demme) comes when Clarice Starling (played by Jodie Foster) explains to Hannibal Lecter (played by Anthony Hopkins) why things didn’t work out at her uncle’s farm. There are no flashbacks; just a woman telling a psychopath about the most vulnerable moment of her troubled youth–and it hits like a gut punch.

The scene is iconic and even gave the film its title.

Now, this iconic scene comes to life in the trailer for Clarice, a sequel series is coming our way from writers and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet; Elizabeth Klaviter serves as showrunner.

Clarice is set in 1993, a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs. The series is a deep dive into the untold personal story of Clarice Starling, as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high stakes political world of Washington, D.C.

Synopsis:
Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice graduated Magna from UVA with a double major in Psych and Criminology. Her bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. Her complex psychological makeup comes from a challenging childhood, and her drive comes from her need to escape the burden of family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life.

Rebecca Breeds (Pretty Little Liars) plays Clarice Starling; other cast members include Michael Cudlitz, Lucca de Oliveira, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, Devyn Tyler, and Marnee Carpenter.

Watch the series premiere of Clarice on Thursday, Feb. 11th at 10 PM on CBS and CBS All Access.
