Richard Kelly Reveals “Enormous Amount of Work Completed” on DONNIE DARKO Sequel

Fans of Donnie Darko have been hoping for a sequel for years (while simultaneously pretending the actual sequel, 2009’s epic misfire S. Darko, never existed!). Now, the film’s writer/director Richard Kelly has given us something to get really excited about during an interview with Comming Soon.

“Well, I’m probably not allowed to say anything more than there has been an enormous amount of work [on a Donnie Darko sequel] completed,” Kelly told the website. “I’m hopeful that we might get to explore that world in a very big and exciting way. But we’ll see what happens. But there has been a lot of work done. A lot of work has been done.”

Kelly is also working on a biopic of Twilight Zone mastermind Rod Serling. You can read his interview with Comming Soon in its entirety, HERE.

Synopsis:
During the presidential election of 1988, a teenager named Donnie Darko sleepwalks out of his house one night and sees a giant, demonic-looking rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world will end in 28 days. When Donnie returns home, he finds that a jet engine has crashed into his bedroom. Is Donnie living in a parallel universe, is he suffering from mental illness – or will the world really end?

Donnie Darko stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, and Mary McDonnell.
