Horror History: Happy F*cking Birthday, Nicolas Cage!

On this day in horror history, Nicolas Cage AKA Nicolas Kim Coppola was born in Long Beach in 1964. For those that might not know, Cage got his start in films such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Valley Girl, and Peggy Sue Got Married.

He then snagged his first truly classic role in the Coen Brothers’ Raising Arizona.

From there he got Moonstruck by Cher and had a Honeymoon in Vegas before earning an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas. These roles somehow prompted Nicolas Cage into an action star in films such as The Rock, Con Air, and Face/Off.

And more semi-recently Kick-Ass, Ghost Rider, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, National Treasure, and National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Nicolas Cage has worked with the best of the best like Martin Scorsese on Bringing Out the Dead, Brian DePalma on Snake Eyes, and Ridley Scott on Matchstick Men.

His genre contributions include 8mm, Season of the Witch, Drive Angry, and Mom and Dad. Plus he played Fu Manchu in Rob Zombie’s Grindhouse trailer, Werewolf Women of the SS. And don’t forget he was in that remake of The Wicker Man.

Recent hits such as Mandy and Color Out of Space. Not to mention Between Worlds, Primal, and Jiu Jitsu. Nicolas Cage can be seen next in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and battling evil animatronics in Willy’s Wonderland.

Other notable roles include Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. But for my money, his best movie is Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman’s Adaptation. That or David Lynch’s Wild at Heart. Tough choice.
