Original SPAWN Up For Cameo In Blumhouse’s New Movie

Todd McFarlane and Blumhouse are working on a new Spawn movie. And today, original Spawn star Michael Jai White reveals he would consider a cameo in the upcoming reboot – for a surprising reason.

White tells ComicBook.com: “Well, yeah. Out of respect for the fans who put me where I am, I would have to say yes. Simply from that.”

This comes on the heels of White kinda talking shit McFarlane’s new film. He tells CBR: “I don’t know Todd to be a director at all. It’s kind of like Stan Lee: He created the character but he doesn’t direct him and I guess somebody would have to pony up a lot of money for Todd McFarlane to direct for his first time directing this movie idea that he has. I’ve heard about Jamie Foxx starring in it and wish them well. I don’t know, maybe it continues because this is what people like to hear from McFarlane. He can get attention by promising another Spawn; I don’t get it.”

He added: “[McFarlane has] been trying to get a new movie up and going for 23 years so I don’t know. [Laughs] The last time I saw him, he was telling me about his idea of Spawn being ethereal fog that you don’t see, like Jaws, and he strikes and you never see him and I’m like ‘Okay, good luck with that!’

Spawn follows a government assassin who is killed after being double-crossed by his boss. Upon arriving in Hell, he is offered an opportunity to return to Earth if he’s willing to lead an evil army. He accepts and is reincarnated as a “Hellspawn” — a twisted, horribly disfigured version of his former self. However, Spawn serves as a force of good, much to the dismay of the Devil’s henchman, a wicked clown.
