Horror History: Happy Birthday, Samuel L. Jackson!

On this day in horror history, Pulp Fiction, Black Snake Moan, and Die Hard with a Vengeance actor Samuel L Jackson was born in Washington, D.C. in 1948.

Best known to your buddies as Nick Fury and/or Mace Windu, Jackson has entertained millions in his roles in Disney’s blockbuster franchise Star Wars and Disney’s, um, OTHER blockbuster franchise, all those Marvel movies.

Not to mention the many films of Quentin Tarantino such as The Hateful Eight, Kill Bill: Volume 2, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, and Jackie Brown.

But Jackson is best known around these parts for his roles in genre flicks such as Snakes on a Plane, Lakeview Terrace, Kong: Skull Island, Jurassic Park, Sphere, Deep Blue Sea, and Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

Jackson kicked off his horror movie career with small roles in Def by Temptation and William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist III. He has since moved on to remakes of Oldboy and RoboCop and M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable and Glass.

Oh, and let’s not forget he starred in two – count ’em out – two Stephen King movies alongside John Cusack: Mikael Hafstrom’s 1408 and Tod Williams’ Cell.

Up next for Jackson is his mysterious role in director Darren Lynn Bousman’s upcoming Saw reboot Spiral: From the Book of Saw with Chris Rock.

Little known fact. The “L” in Samuel L. Jackson stands for “motherfucker.”
