David Boreanaz Wants New Actor For Angel In BUFFY Reboot

Is Joss Whedon still developing that Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot? Shrugs. He’s a busy man. But whatever big red has planned, it looks like Bones and Angel star David Boreanaz thinks he’s too old to reprise his famous role.

Boreanaz tells Variety: “No. I’m all for people redoing it or whatever, but I’m too old… But, you know, with all that technology, they made Robert De Niro look really young. I would encourage them to find somebody else to do it.”

For those out there that might not know, David Boreanaz played Angel on the first three seasons of Buffy. He then snagged his own spin-off which ran for five years.

The hit spin-off series began with Angel moving to LA after his relationship with Buffy, the vampire slayer. He works as a private detective, battling demons, and saving souls along the way. Whedon created the series with David Greenwalt. It first aired on October 5, 1999, and concluded on May 19, 2004, after 110 episodes.

The last thing I remember hearing about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot was that Whedon was developing the story with Monica Owusu-Breen (Alias, Lost, Fringe). Owusu-Breen will write, executive produce, and showrun. Whedon will executive produce alongside Gail Berman, Fran Kazui, Kaz Kazui, and Joe Earley.

The new version will be contemporary, building on the mythology of the original. Producers say: “Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today.”

Sources say, the new slayer to be African American.

Are you bummed David Boreanaz won’t return as Angel?
