TOXIC AVENGER: Legendary’s Reboot Adds Peter Dinklage

Peter Dinklage is awesome. And today we hear the Game of Thrones, X-Men: Days of Future Past star has joined Legendary’s reboot of Troma’s The Toxic Avenger.

Blue Ruin actor and I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore helmer Macon Blair will write and direct. Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz will produce.

Described as a contemporary reimagining, the reboot will subvert the superhero genre a la (Deadpool). The first flick followed a dude who gets disfigured after falling into toxic waste and goes on to fight bad guys like a superhero.

Michael Herz directed the original from a screenplay written by Lloyd Kaufman (credited as Samuel Weil) and Joe Ritter. The film spawned three film sequels including The Last Temptation of Toxie and Citizen Toxie.

Here’s a longer synopsis: This is the story of Melvin. The Tromaville Health Club mop boy. He inadvertently and naively trusts the hedonistic, contemptuous, and vain health club members, and accidentally ends up in a vat of toxic waste. The devastating results unleash his alter ego, and the Toxic Avenger is born, to deadly and comical results. The local mop boy is now the local Superhero, the savior of corruption, thuggish bullies, and indifference.

The cult classic Troma flick sports a surprisingly solid 70% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. Here’s the Critics Consensus that reads: A silly and ribald superhero spoof, Toxic Avenger uninhibited humor hits more than it misses.

On top of Game of Thrones and X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dinklage is also known for his role in one of my favorite flicks, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
