DEXTER: 10 Killer Cameos from the Showtime Series
As we all know, Showtime will gift us a new Dexter limited series next year. Michael C. Hall will return as the world’s most lovable serial killer. But today we wanted to point on some of the other great actors who have appeared on the show.
Killer extended cameos popped up left and right throughout the show’s eight seasons. Some of the best being Colin Hanks (Orange County), Edward James Olmos (Blade Runner), Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone), and Peter Weller (Robocop). And let’s not forget John Lithgow as the vicious Trinity Killer.
But again, those were more guest-stars than cameos. So let’s take a moment to pay tribute to horror’s top talent who stopped by the show for an episode – or four.
Adrienne Barbeau (Season 4 – Episode 1)
Adrienne Barbeau stole our hearts with her roles in classics like The Fog, Escape from New York, and Creepshow (to name a few). Barbeau played one of Dexter’s Dad’s possible hook-ups in the first episode of season 4, “Living the Dream.”
Angela Bettis (Season 5 – 2 Episodes)
Angela Bettis is known for her roles in films such as May, Toolbox Murders, The Woods, The Woman, and Sinister. She played rape victim (with secret) Emily Birch in two season 5 episodes, “Hop A Freighter” and “In The Beginning.”
Ronny Cox (Season 6 – Episode 3)
Known for roles in films such as Deliverance, The Car, The Beast Within, and Total Recall, Cox starred in the Season 6 Episode 3 “Smokey and the Bandit” as a retired serial killer nicknamed The Tooth Fairy, who might be as retired as he lets on…
Denise Crosby (Season 1 – Episode 3)
Denise Crosby is best known as Rachel Creed in Mary Lambert’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary. But she showed up in Dexter for one episode to play the murderous Nurse Mary in season one episode “Popping Cherry.”
Keith Gordon (Season 4 – Episode 11)
Christine, Dressed to Kill, and Jaws 2 actor Keith Gordon played a man with the unfortunate name of Kyle Butler in the season 4 episode “Hello, Dexter Morgan.” Gordon also gets bonus points here as he directed 10 episodes of the series.
Scott Grimes (Season 5 | Episode 10)
Scott Grimes is someone we all know from his role in Critters with Dee Wallace. But Grimes stopped by Dexter’s table too. He played murderous rapist Alex Tilden in the season 5 episode “In The Beginning” opposite Johnny Lee Miller (Hackers).
Dale Midkiff (Season 2 – Episode 7)
Like Denise Crosby, Midkiff killed it in Pet Sematary. In that flick, he played a father responsible for the death of his child. In Dexter, he plays a falsely accused father in the season 2 episode “That Night, a Forest Grew.” Poor guy can’t catch a break.
Julian Sands (Season 8 | Episode 7)
Warlock himself Julian Sands (Arachnophobia) played Yvonne Strahovski’s abusive husband Miles Castner in the eighth and final season’s 7th episode, “Dress Code.”
JoBeth Williams (Season 2 – 4 Episodes)
JoBeth Williams played Julie Benz’s overbearing mother Gail in 4 episodes of season 2. Williams is, of course, beloved amongst genre fans for playing Diane Freeling in Steven Spielberg and Tobe Hooper’s haunted house classic Poltergeist.
Amanda Wyss (Season 1 – Episode 3)
Amanda Wyss may be forever known as Freddy’s first victim in Wes Craven’s classic A Nightmare on Elm Street. She graced Dexter with her presence as a Social Worker in the season one episode “Popping Cherry” (with Denise Crosby).

Other classic horror actors that visited Dexter include Ray Santiago (Ash vs Evil Dead), Brea Grant (Halloween II, After Midnight), Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad, Gremlins), Erin Daniels (House of 1000 Corpses, One Hour Photo), Tony Goldwyn (Last House on the Left), and Leslie Grossman (American Horror Story).
