RIP Joe Kane AKA “The Phantom of the Movies”: Editor/Publisher of Videoscope Magazine Has Passed Away

Various media outlets are reporting that Joe Kane AKA The Phantom of the Movies, editor and publisher of Videoscope Magazine and author of several film retrospectives, has passed away.

EDITORS NOTE: This post originally ran with a mistake listing Joe’s name as John. While unintentional the oversight is deeply regrettable, especially given his contributions curating and cataloging film. Our sincerest apologies to his family and friends, and to our readers for the mistake.

Kane and his wife Nancy Naglin The Phantom of the Movies’ VideoScope in the fall of 1992. Its final issue is dated Fall 2020 (#115).

His books include The Ultimate Guide to the Latest, Greatest and Weirdest Genre Videos (2000), and Night of the Living Dead: Behind the Scenes of the Most Terrifying Zombie Movie Ever (2010).

His cause of death remains unknown at this time.
