With this being the last year for The Twilight Saga at Comic-Con (at least until the remakes start up), it makes sense for its creator, Stephenie Meyer, to bring all the Twi-Hards into the fold for her next juggernaut, The Host. And what better place to do that than during the Twilight panel?

Deadline has heard that Meyer has something dramatic planned for when she and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 cast gather Thursday at 12:45 PM for their final Comic-Con panel together. The surprise will likely focus on The Host, which is being distributed by Open Road. Considering that shooting for the film wrapped up recently, the first bit of footage is highly likely to debut at SDCC.

While Meyer has only published a single Host novel, it’s believed she has already written the next two installments of a trilogy. Just as Twilight‘s vampire/werewolf saga focused on a love triangle among Kristin Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, the Andrew Niccol-directed The Host does the same with characters played by Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, and Jake Abel. Look for it in theatres on March 29, 2013.

Synopsis:
The Host is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining “wild” humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.
