Amazon Studios has ordered a YA horror series based on Jim Gillespie and Kevin Williamson’s classic 90s slasher flick I Know What You Did Last Summer with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr.
Executive produced by James Wan (The Conjuring) and written by Sara Goodman (Preacher) based on Lois Duncan’s novel, it will be a modern take on the 1997 film and sport the same premise: In a town full of secrets, a group of teenagers is stalked by a mysterious killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night.
Albert Cheng, COO and CO-Head of Television, Amazon Studios said: “The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie. Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan favorite film.”
Jason Clodfelter, Co-President, Sony Pictures TV Studios said: “We are thrilled to have I Know What You Did Last Summer with our incredible partners at Amazon Studios. Neal Moritz and Original Film’s development consistently fires on all cylinders and that is proven once again with Sara Goodman’s contemporary and pulsating character weaving suspense thriller.”
Wan will serve as executive producer on the new slasher series with Goodman, Shay Hatten, Neil Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Rob Hackett, Michael Clear, and Erik Feig.
