This Day in Horror History: Happy Birthday, Andrew Lincoln

On this day in horror history, Andrew James Clutterbuck was born in London, England in 1973. Better was known by his stage name Andrew Lincoln, Clutterbuck is an English actor best known for his roles in the Christmas-themed romantic comedy film Love Actually and as Rick Grimes on AMC’s The Walking Dead.

The son of an English civil engineer and a South African nurse, he attended Beechen Cliff School, where his first acting role as The Artful Dodger in a school production of Oliver!. After school, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) drama school and began to use “Andrew Lincoln” as his stage name.

Lincoln first appeared in an episode of Drop the Dead Donkey in 1994. He went on to star in a number of British shows such as This Life, The Woman in White, The Canterbury Tales, and Wuthering Heights, Teachers, Afterlife, and Strike Back.

Lincoln appeared in films such as Human Traffic and Gangster No. 1 and has performed in plays. He married the daughter of Jethro Tull flutist and vocalist, Gael Anderson in June 2006. They have two children, Malinda and Arthur.

In 2010, Lincoln gained international fame as Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead. The role won him the Saturn Award for Best Actor on Television in 2015 and 2017. Lincoln appeared on the show for the final time in November 2018 but is set to reprise his role in a trilogy of feature films distributed by Universal Pictures.
