This Day in Horror History Part 2: HATCHET Was Released in 2007
An actor would consider himself or herself blessed to play an iconic horror villain once in a lifetime. Kane Hodder, however, has achieved this unbelievable metric twice. Hodder is the actor most synonymous with Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees after portraying the slasher in The New Blood, Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell, and Jason X. But Hodder became an icon for the second time for portraying Victor Crowley in the Hatchet franchise, which debuted on this day in 2007.
Hatchet spawned 3 sequels and the series may still have fuel left in the tank! If it’s been a while, or if you’ve yet to dive into the franchise for yourself, give the trailer and synopsis for 2007’s Hatchet below.
Synopsis:
When a group of tourists in a New Orleans haunted swamp tour find themselves stranded in the wilderness, their evening of fun and spooks turns into a horrific nightmare.
Hatchet is written and directed by Adam Green. In addition to Hodder, the film stars Joel David Moore and Deon Richmond with cameos from Robert Englund and Tony Todd.
Trivia:
If you watch the first three Hatchet movies in a row without opening and end credits, it would be one uninterrupted storyline, revolving around a few days. (Source)
When actor Joel David Moore vomits on-screen, it is real. Director Adam Green did not want the actors spitting out fake vomit, like most movies do. Though Moore managed to throw up on his own for the first take, he was supplied with a mixture of cold clam chowder and orange juice for the second take. (Source)
