STX Snags Michael Bay/Adam Mason Pandemic Horror SONGBIRD

While most studio movies have been shuttered in California, the pandemic horror Songbird (produced by Michael Bay and directed by Adam Mason) soldiered forward under strict pandemic guidelines. Recently wrapped, today brings word that STXfilms has snagged North American and UK rights to the film, which stars Demi Moore, Craig Robinson, Paul Walter Hauser, Peter Stormare, Bradley Whitford, and Jenna Ortega.

Deadline reports:

“We are thrilled to acquire this timely and urgent movie,” said Adam Fogelson, chairman of STXfilms Motion Picture Group. “This year has irrevocably changed the way people interact with each other and their surroundings, and the reverberations will be profound; with all of 2020 underlying every frame of the movie, Songbird will be relevant, moving, and sentimental as a love story, while also scary as hell. We have been longtime fans and friends of many of the creative team behind Songbird. We are looking forward to working with Michael, Adam, Andrew, and the teams at Invisible Narratives and Catchlight Films, who have been behind some of the best recent films that marry realistic science fiction and emotional storylines in an effective and terrifying way.”

Songbird was penned by Simon Boyes (Misconduct); Bay produces alongside Eben Davidson, Jeanette Volturno, Jason Clark, Marcei Brown, Jessica Malanaphy, and Rick A. Osako.

A taut thriller in the spirit of Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield, Songbird takes place two years in the future. The pandemic has not gone away. Lockdowns have been rolled back and then reinstated and it becomes even more serious as the virus mutates.
