Women in Horror Film Festival Changes 2021 Dates Due to COVID-19

The Women in Horror Film Festival is moving the dates of the fest from February 2021 to June 10th -12th, 2021! The fest will continue to take place at the historic Strand Theatre on the Marietta Square in Atlanta, GA.

Co-founder and festival director Vanessa Wright said, “It’s very important to maintain the integrity of the fest and the safety of our attendees. With such uncertainty before us, I don’t feel it is responsible to move forward with a live event in February. Part of the magic of this festival is the sense of community and the energy that comes with watching your film with a live audience.  We are doing our best to make sure that filmmakers and screenwriters involved with the 2021 event aren’t stripped of that experience.”

WIHFF is not alone in this decision, as so many festivals have had to and are making the difficult decision to cancel, move online, or push their dates. “It’s hard to know what the right decision is, when there are so many factors that must be considered. Ultimately, we have decided to do what we think is best for everyone involved and make the health and safety of our guests the top priority.” says Wright.

WIHFF will be extending the submission period to stay open through March 31st, 2021, allowing filmmakers and screenwriters ample time to finish any work in progress and get it submitted before the closing date.

In an effort to stay connected and to help promote indie artists, Vanessa has teamed up with S.A. Bradley (author of Screaming for Pleasure and podcaster for Hellbent for Horror) to do a regularly scheduled LIVE show from the WIHFF Facebook page. This is an open format, pirate radio-style event where they welcome filmmakers, authors, actors, artists, and fans to join the conversation to chat horror. “It’s been a lot of fun, and given that so many are still stuck at home or choosing not to be out as much, it’s a great way to talk about the art that we are creating and consuming and bridge that gap until we can all be together again in person,” says Wright.
