EVIL DEAD Double Feature Comes to Mendon Drive-In This Thursday July 30th
MENDON, Mass. – Sam Raimi’s original 1981 horror classic The Evil Dead, “the ultimate experience in grueling terror”, will screen together with its hugely popular, outrageously gory 1987 horror-comedy sequel Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn this Thursday, July 30th, at the Mendon Drive-In in Mendon, Mass. (mendondrivein.com).
Tickets are on sale now, HERE.
Synopsis:
Ashley “Ash” Williams (Bruce Campbell), his girlfriend and three pals hike into the woods to a cabin for a fun night away. There they find an old book, the Necronomicon, whose text reawakens the dead when it’s read aloud. The friends inadvertently release a flood of evil and must fight for their lives or become one of the evil dead. Ash watches his friends become possessed, and must make a difficult decision before daybreak to save his own life in this, the first of Sam Raimi’s trilogy.
Synopsis:
The second of three films in the Evil Dead series is part horror, part comedy, with Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) once again battling horrifying demons at a secluded cabin in the woods. After discovering an audiotape left by a college professor that contains voices reading from the Book of the Dead, Ash’s girlfriend Linda (Denise Bixler) becomes possessed by evil spirits that are awakened by the voices on the tape. Ash soon discovers there is no escaping the woods.
Indie distributor Grindhouse Releasing has booked The Evil Dead into more than 40 drive-ins since launching a national tour for the film on June 13th. The movie helped make Detroit’s Ford-Wyoming Drive-In the highest-grossing movie theater in the country that week, and has since sold out in multiple cities.
The Mendon Drive-In is the first venue on the tour to show Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 together on one program. The Evil Dead 2020 drive-in tour so far has mainly featured the original Evil Dead alone, or double-billed with other Grindhouse Releasing horror hits like I Drink Your Blood (1970), The Beyond (1981), and Pieces (1982).
“Evil Dead 2 is a favorite with many fans of the series, so we’re very happy to give people a chance to see it at the drive-in with the first Evil Dead,” said Grindhouse Releasing co-founder Bob Murawski, who has edited many of Raimi’s films including Spider-Man 1, 2 & 3 and Army of Darkness.
Rialto Pictures is providing the 4K DCP restoration of Evil Dead 2 for the release. Grindhouse Releasing distributes The Evil Dead theatrically in North America on behalf of Renaissance Pictures.
This special drive-in screening of Evil Dead 2 is dedicated in memory of actor Danny Hicks.
