The HU releases Deluxe Version of THE GEREG with Special Film

Critically acclaimed Mongolian rock group, The HU, released their Deluxe edition of The Gereg on July 10th, available in CD, double vinyl and digital formats. This new version includes 3 tracks re-made with special featured artists including Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach), Danny Case (From Ashes To New) and Lzzy Hale (Halestorm).

Alongside the Deluxe album The HU are sharing a special film, The Hu: Road to The Gereg looking back at the making of The Gereg, features and accomplishments along the way, plus unseen BTS footage from tour life, video sets and live performances. The Special also includes a narrative from the band and collaborators on their music, Mongolian culture and the evolution of The HU’s customized traditional instruments, symbolism and presentation.

There will also be 3 acoustic tracks on the Deluxe release: “Shoog Shoog”, “Yuve Yuve Yu” and “Shireg Shireg”. The enchanting video for “Shireg Shireg” dropped on July 2nd, showing behind-the-scenes clips of The HU in the studio, offering fans a real insight into their recording process and a closer look at their gorgeous traditional instruments. Give it a spin below.

Last week The HU put on a televised charity concert, filmed in the White Rock Centre in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Through broadcast on Mongolian TV and their YouTube/Facebook pages, The HU raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Mongolian Covid-19 relief. The overwhelming generosity of fans actually broke the servers, so to express their gratitude The HU are having an encore celebration: everyone who makes a donation before Deluxe album release will automatically be entered to win the ultimate HU VIP concert package – more information here.

The concert was also the band’s homecoming show after their sold-out world tour. The HU were stuck in Australia for months when their world tour was cut short by the pandemic, but The HU are a voice of courage, resilience and unity and they supported each other, even using their time in Australia to start working on album 2. Therefore, it was really important to them to give back, and have this concert to help those in Mongolia affected by the pandemic.

The Gereg Deluxe holds three fantastic re-made tracks including “Yuve Yuve Yu” featuring Danny Case (From Ashes To New), which was the band’s first-ever radio single peaking at #4 on the rock radio charts, and “Wolf Totem” featuring Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach) which is currently a Top 10 single at Rock radio in the US and has racked up 10.5 million views on YouTube.

The last collaboration on the album “Song of Women” featuring Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) came out in May, a month filled with events honoring women in the US. “I’m so thankful to THE HU for welcoming me, my words and my melody into this song,” says Hale. “I can count on less than one hand the number of times where a project has changed the course of my spirit and renewed my faith in humanity. This was one of those projects.”

Their original version of The Geregreleased in September 2019 via Better Noise Music, has sold over 130K copies worldwide and landed on several Top Ten charts, including the U.S., UK, Canada and Australia, and Top 20 charts in Germany and Sweden.

Formed in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, The HU achieved global recognition with powerful videos that have amassed over 95 million views to date. “Wolf Totem,” “Yuve Yuve Yu and The Great Chingiss Khan showcase the band’s one-of-a-kind style of ‘hunnu rock’ – a combination of Western heavy rock played with traditional Mongolian instrumentation such as the Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle), Tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), Tumur Khuur (jaw harp) and guttural throat singing in their native language.

The band has achieved wide critical acclaim and appeared on many 2019 year-end best-of lists. In the US Loudwire listed The Gereg among its Top Albums of 2019 and Revolver Magazine listed the band’s video “Great Chinggis Khaan” among the year’s Top 10. In the UK, The Gereg placed among Top Albums of 2019 in Classic Rock and Metal Hammer magazines.

The band is involved in the film The Retaliators, a high-octane horror-thriller, starring Michael Lombardi (FX’s Rescue Me), Marc Menchaca (Ozark, The Outsider) and Joseph Gatt (Dumbo) with special guest appearances by some of rock music’s biggest names. The HU band members play a small part in the movie and contributed ‘Wolf Totem’ featuring Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach) to the soundtrack.
