Filmmaker Evan J. Cholfin, along with his wife and producing partner, Ariana Farina, has devised a clever way to promote their upcoming film, The Garlock Incident. They’re taking the mystery online and letting the fans have the first crack at piecing it together.
Using social media, Cholfin (who wrote and directed The Garlock Incident) and Farina have built an entire fictitious world created on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Tumblr based around the disappearance of a group of filmmakers shooting in a Western ghost town. With video postings and clues to the case on these different sites, the creators of The Garlock Incident have basically presented a prologue for their film, piquing the interest of potential audience members before the movie is even released.
In true Blair Witch fashion, nowhere on these sites is there any mention of a film, giving everything a very real tone. There is a ton of information already posted on the sites and more coming in all the time. The newest video is posted below.
The best way to learn about it is to dive right into the sites. For more “like” the Families in Search Facebook page, visit the official Families in Search website and follow Families in Search on Twitter (@FamsInSearch).
Again, note the realism of the sites and keep in mind they’re all to promote The Garlock Incident film. Nicely done, folks. Very realistic.
