About Shelter Shorts

With film sets halted, theater-going suspended, and festivals canceled, COVID-19 has upended every aspect of the industry – and the world – as we know it. However, in these times of hardship and isolation, movies can provide a sense of normalcy in abnormal times, as well as help to those most affected.

SHELTER SHORTS is an online charitable film series sponsored by Short of the Week and Sugar 23, featuring short films made by filmmakers from around the globe.

Anyone is free to participate by following the project’s simple rules. These films can be of any style, genre, and feature any storyline.

Community entries will sit side by side with work from world class filmmakers. The best films will be curated by the team at Short of the Week for promotion on the Shelter Shorts website, Short of the Week, platform partners such as Vimeo, as well as other top editorial and curation outlets.

With this initiative, we hope to provide a fun, low stakes creative outlet and community for filmmakers to participate in, all while normalizing safe practices of social distancing and spreading a positive message. Most importantly, our goal is to draw attention to front line workers and, in particular, support World Central Kitchen’s COVID-19 relief efforts. Together, we can mitigate hunger during these difficult times.

Let’s make movies go viral, not COVID-19.
