Cate Blanchett Joins Eli Roth & Craig Mazin’s BORDERLANDS Adaptation

Cate Blanchett is in talks to star as Lilith in Lionsgate and Eli Roth’s upcoming adaptation of the popular video game Borderlands. Variety describes Lilith as one of the main protagonists in the franchise, and one of the playable characters in the first game. She is one of only six women in the galaxy that belongs to the powerful “siren” class, wielding incredible, superhuman powers.

Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel) will helm this adaptation of the bestselling video game from a screenplay by Emmy-winner Craig Mazin (Chernobyl). Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Erik Feig produce. Randy Pitchford and Strauss Zelnick are executive producers. James Myers is overseeing the project for Lionsgate, Emmy Yu for Arad Productions, and Lucy Kitada for PICTURESTART.

Production will begin on the film later this year.
Borderlands is one of the world’s most successful video game franchises, with more than 57 million units sold-in worldwide, including over 22 million units of Borderlands 2. More than one million players every month still play Borderlands 2. The most recent installment, Borderlands 3, was unleashed in September 2019, and has already sold-in nearly 8 million units worldwide and was honored with the award for Best Multiplayer Game at Gamescom.
