“The Devil Made Me Do It!” Ed & Lorraine Warren Describe the Case That Inspired THE CONJURING 3

“The Devil made me do it!” The old adage became an actual defense at a trial dubbed The Brookfield Demon Murder Case. Look for the story of Arne Cheyenne Johnson and a possessed boy named David Glatzel to hit silver screens on September 11th as the inspiration for The Conjuring 3.

But if you want to know the real (and really terrifying) story behind the hype, check out the video embedded at the top of the article. Recently re-released by the Official Ed and Lorraine Warren Channel on YouTube, the famed demonologists sit down again with paranormal researcher Tony Spera on an episode of Seekers of the Supernatural.

As I previously mentioned, The Brookfield Demon Murder Case isn’t just about Johnson and his victim (Alan Bono) but the entire Glatzel family. Johnson was engaged to Debbie Glatzel, and her younger brother David was (apparently) possessed. This was when Ed and Lorraine Warren became involved in the case. One night, when David was being tormented by an otherworldly force, Johnson exclaimed (something along the lines of): “Leave the boy alone. Take me instead”.

Ed and Lorraine both describe Johnson as nearly beyond reproach, “The kind of kid you’d like to have as a son”. But it wasn’t long after this particular encounter that he killed Bono during a heated argument. Ed and Lorraine both firmly believe that if their “evidence” had been admissible in court, Johnson would have been acquitted.
