This Day in Horror: Anton Yelchin Was Born in 1989

He was a young, rising star in the horror genre with a bright future ahead of him–which made his accidental passing at the age of 27 an absolute tragedy. On “This Day in Horror”, we pay tribute to Anton Yelchin.

Born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia, USSR, to a Jewish family, Yelchin’s first horror-adjacent movie was Along Came a Spider in 2001. He really hit most genre aficionados’ radars following his appearance in Fright Night in 2011; future icon status was achieved for his powerhouse performance in Green Room in 2015. Other notable horror movies in his filmography include Burying the Ex, Only Lovers Left Alive, Odd Thomas, and Thoroughbreds.

Anton lived in Los Angeles, California, until his death on the evening of June 19, 2016, outside his LA home, when his parked Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled backward on his steep driveway, pinning him against a brick pillar and security fence. This was due to badly designed shifter that indicated park when it was in neutral. This death, along with reports of other near-misses, resulted in a recall of that model. (Source)

Trivia:
Yelchin suffered from Cystic Fibrosis from an early age, which was not revealed publicly until after his untimely death. (Source)

Today, on what would have been his 31st birthday, all of us here at Dread Central wish to honor the legacy of Anton Yelchin, gone too soon.
