With Star Wars, Titanic, and who knows what other old favorites jumping on the bandwagon, is it any wonder Jurassic Park is heading back to theatres in retrofitted 3D as well? Yeah, we didn’t think so either, and now we know when it’ll be taking place.
Deadline reports that Universal Pictures has confirmed the speculation that it is re-releasing Steven Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park in 3D with the film slated to bow Friday, July 19, 2013.
Written by Michael Crichton and David Koepp based on Crichton’s populr novel, Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. It tells the tale of a theme park that suffers a major power breakdown, allowing its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok during a preview tour.
Released in 1993, Jurassic Park grossed $915 million worldwide. While it might merit an asterisk, the re-release could very well mark the first Spielberg-directed film to surpass $1 billion.
