THE NEW MUTANTS Looks To Score $20M Opening Weekend

The Stand director Josh Boone’s X-Men horror movie The New Mutants with Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, and Alice Braga will be unleashed on April 3rd. And today we hear that the film is projected to score an opening weekend in the range of $15 – 25 million.

Box-Office Pro lists the PROS of the film’s success. One, Fox-era X-Men fans will likely show up, particularly given its horror tone. And two, the killer cast including Anya Taylor-Joy (Split), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things) could attract more viewers.
That said, the site lists the CONS as well. One, there is still some bad taste left by the release date delays and rumors of re-shoots. And two, the release is likely to be impacted by other big-time movies such as A Quiet Place Part II, Mulan, and the new James Bond flick, No Time to Die.

New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone and produced by Simon Kinberg, Karen Rosenfelt, and Lauren Shuler Donner from a script by Boone and Knate Lee based on the comic by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. It centers on five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a facility against their will, who must fight to escape their sins and save themselves.

It stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik, Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes, and (maybe) Jon Hamm.
