THE DARK TOWER Showrunner Incredibly Proud of Abandoned Amazon Pilot

Last week we passed along the unfortunate news that Amazon has passed on their planned TV series adaptation of author Stephen King’s magnum opus series of novels The Dark Tower.

And today we learned that showrunner Glen Mazzara took to Twitter to let us all know just how proud he is of the pilot they produced, writing:

King himself took note of Mazzara’s tweets and sent him his love, writing:

The series was set to explore the origin story of Roland Deschain (Sam Strike) and how he first became a gunslinger, how he got his guns, his first conflict with the man in black (Jasper Pääkkönen), his first love and his first mission. The cast of the pilot is believed to have included Michael Rooker, Jerome Flynn, and Joana Ribeiro.

Evidently, Amazon executives felt like the pilot was “not on the level” of other “large-scope elevated genre series the streamer has in production/pre-production” like Wheel Of Time and The Lord Of the Rings.

The first (and only) episode was directed by Stephen Hopkins who is best known around these parts for helming A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream ChildPredator 2Judgment Night, Blown AwayThe Ghost and the Darkness, and The Reaping.

Are you sad to hear that Amazon Studios has passed on The Dark Tower? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!
