Sexy DRACULA Reimagining THE BRIDES Coming Soon

Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has a new series in the works. This time it’s a “sexy contemporary reimagining” of the Bram Stoker novel Dracula called The Brides.

The Wrap reports that ABC has given a pilot order to the series, which is described as a family drama with strong horror elements. It centers on a trio of empowered, immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy — and their non-traditional family.

Aguirre-Sacasa (Katy Keene) will write the pilot and Nightflyers, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, American Horror Story, Scream Queens, Katy Keene, and Riverdale director Maggie Kiley will take the helm. Aguirre-Sacasa and Kiley will also serve as the show’s executive producers along with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

Will this be like Hammer’s 1960 film The Brides of Dracula? Doubtful. That flick centered on a young baron who inherits the Dracula curse and is kept locked away by his mother to hide the family secret – although she does procure for him an occasional victim. However, when he breaks out of his castle prison, she becomes a victim herself, and the undead lad takes flight to terrorize the local village and rampage through a girls’ school before a specialist is called in.

My personal favorite portrayal of Dracula’s Brides comes from Francis Ford Coppola’S 1992 American gothic horror film Bram Stoker’s Dracula featuring Monica Bellucci, Michaela Bercu, and Florina Kendrick as the titular trio. How about you? Let us know below!
