With “The Killing”‘s Joel Kinnaman set to star in director Jose Padilha’s remake of RoboCop, Sony Pictures has stepped in to bring the film to the masses.
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures is signing on to distribute MGM’s RoboCop, a remake of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven-directed science fiction film that will star Kinnaman (pictured right) in the role originated by Peter Weller. The film’s being directed by Jose Padilha, helmer of the two Elite Squad films. Strike Entertainment partners Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing. Josh Zetumer wrote the script.
RoboCop has been following a fast track since MGM landed Kinnaman, who starred in Snabba Cash as well as The Darkest Hour and just turned in a small but memorable role opposite Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in Safe House.
With the studio hoping for a summer start, we expect a lot more announcements so keep it here!
