Up in the Air and Thank You For Smoking director Jason Reitman’s new Ghostbusters flick starring Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and Paul Rudd hits in July 2020.
We were hit with the trailer earlier today and now we’re passing along a fun theory that says the new film will be directly connected to one of the original film’s main villains – Ivo Shandor!
Check out the name of the mining company in the screenshot below:
In the original Ghostbusters, Egon’s research reveals Ivo Shandor as the architect behind Dana Barrett’s haunted building 550 Central Park West. On top of that, we know Shandor was a doctor who performed “a lot of unnecessary surgery” and established his own secret society in 1920.
And Ghostbusters: Afterlife shows us that the Shandor Mining Co. was established in 1927!
Furthermore, Shandor’s secret society of Gozer worshippers had “close to a thousand followers” when he died who thought society was “too sick to survive” and conducted bizarre rituals intended to bring about the end of the world. Maybe it all started in these old-ass mines?
It makes sense to me!
That mixed with the fact that it really looks like one of Gozier’s dogs terrorizing Paul Rudd in the trailer and it appears that this new movie villain will be heavily tied to the 1984 original.
Check out the trailer again RIGHT HERE.
