This Day in Horror: Happy Birthday Julee Cruise

Born on this day in 1956: Julee Cruise

Cruise is a singer, best known for her work with director David Lynch and composer Angelo Badalamenti. Badalamenti knew Cruise from a New York theater company, so when a “haunting ethereal-voiced” singer was needed for Blue Velvet, he suggested Cruise.

The pairing proved successful, and Lynch and Badalamenti wrote and produced many of the songs on her debut album, Floating into the Night. Cruise went on to perform many of the songs in Industrial Symphony No. 1, an avant-garde musical Lynch directed.

After that came Twin Peaks. Cruise provided the vocals to lyric version of the opening theme, as well as appearing in a number of episodes, singing at the Bar Bang Bang. Two of her other songs, “Into the Night” and “The Nightingale” appeared on the soundtrack. She was featured in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me as well as Twin Peaks: The Return.
