This Day in Horror: Happy Birthday Denise Crosby
Born on this day in 1957: Denise Crosby
Best known for her role as Tasha Yar in Star Trek: The Next Generation, she was originally chosen to play Deanna Troi until Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry changed her role. Her new role was far less meaty, and she asked to leave the show after twenty-two episodes. Though her character was killed off, she would be brought back in later seasons, in alternate universe episodes, and as the daughter of Tasha Yar.
In the horror space, Crosby is best known for her role as Rachel Creed, the mother in 1989’s Pet Sematary. Other horror credits include roles in Dolly Dearest; Mutant Species; Relative Fear; Mortuary; Born; Dark Intentions; The Watcher; and Itsy Bitsy.
On TV, Crosby played Agent Scully’s OBGYN in two episodes of The X-Files; Dexter’s first victim on Dexter; and part of a group of cannibals in three episodes of The Walking Dead.
