IFC Films Nabs Distro for Stanley Kubrick/The Shining Documentary Room 237

Unfortunately, one Sundance 2012 film that we didn’t get a chance to see and review was Rodney Ascher’s experimental documentary Room 237, which explores numerous theories about the real meaning of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, but thankfully IFC Films is about to make up for it.
Per Deadline, IFC Films has picked up Room 237, which had its world premiere in the festival’s New Frontier section, and will roll it out later this year via a theatrical/day and date VOD release. In the interim the word is that the film will screen this spring in the New Directors/New Film series in New York, and Cannes is a likely bet to debut the film across the Atlantic.
Synopsis:
A subjective documentary that explores the numerous theories about the hidden meanings within Stanley Kubrick’s film The Shining (1980). The film may be over 30 years old, but it continues to inspire debate, speculation, and mystery. Five very different points of view are illuminated through voice-over, film clips, animation, and dramatic reenactments. Together they’ll draw the audience into a new maze, one with endless detours and dead ends, many ways in, but no way out.
